The GCC Produced CD Library

The CD ROM library contains a growing collection of HOW TO, tutorials, and software CD ROMS on a wide variety of topics. These disks are prepared by club members for our members only. Some consist of video of the presentations made for or during meetings. Others are collections of freeware and shareware programs, all of which are tested, cataloged, and described. We even have a few that are just fun. Check out the CD library for more information. The Librarian also has 4 sets of catalogs that contain the detail content of each CD. These catalogs can be browsed during the meeting.

Club members can buy the CD's for $1.00.  Scroll down to see a listing of the CD's available. Each CD is numbered for your convince. Just ask the librarian for the number you want.

#45 Windows Boot Images, Login Screens and Visual Styles
09/03 Windows XP allows you to control the look and feel of your entire desktop. This is accomplished by applying styles to your computer. This CD contains:
  • 20 different boot image screens. These are the screens that appear when your computer is booting. They replace the default windows image you normally see. 
  • 40ogin screens. These are the screens you see when Windows asks you for you login and password. Home users that do not have a network, may not see a login screen.
  • 120ifferent themes. Themes determine what your desktop and interface will look like.

Each patch directory has a text file containing a description of what the patch fixes. Pay close attention to these text files and only load the patches that fix problems your machine has.

The programs on this disk are divided into 5 pages to make loading faster. We learned this is better from our last utilities disk. #17. Microsoft Office Suite Alternatives and MORE

This CD contains Freeware replacements for Microsoft Office! These programs mimic Microsoft Office key stroke for key stroke, and they are free for individual use. Also included are some PDF (Adobe Acrobat) viewers and tools, some Virus Checkers and some Web Browsers too. The Virus Checkers are trial version of : Panda Titanium and Mcafee Virus Scanners and Norton AntiVirus. The Web browsers are: Netscape 7.0, Amaya and Mozilla 1.0 and 1.1.

 

#16.   Game Disk 3

Another Gaming disk, but with a twist. This CD contains two full games and several demos. 

Flying Aces High, has much more to offer than just flying planes (World War II vintage). It also lets you control ground and sea units like battleships! I've included all the utilities and maps that were available on the web site. The total package for Flying Aces High is around 60 Meg. The game can be played on-line or off. If you want to go to the web site, it's http://www.flyaceshigh.com.

America's Army - Operation Recon is actually US Army recruiting incentive. This full game that can be played either in single player mode or online on Army provided servers. It looks good and uses some of the latest technology!  It's also over 220 Meg in size! The web site is http://www.americasarmy.com.

The disk also contains demo for 3 new games that are being released soon.  They are: Age of Wonders 2, Dungeon Seige, and Sum of all Fears. All of these demos are self-extracting programs so you should have no problems using them. Try them before you spend your hard earned money.

This CD contains several different approaches and articles on how to build a PC. It also contains the GCC Guidelines on deciding upon what type of PC you want or need. We have not tried to integrate each set of articles. Rather, we show them as alternatives. Some are detailed and provide a lot of information. Others are simple step-by-step approach. Extra narrative and comments have been provided were we deemed appropriate. 

This Cd  does not cover installing an operating system or software.

The GCC introduces MAME, Multi Arcade Machine Emulator. This emulator supports over 3300 of the old style arcade machines. It will also play on a multitude of operations systems including widows, DOS, MAC, and Linux. In accordance with the MAME licensing agreement, no games are included on this CD

This CD contains video editing and capturing software and a few hints and tips. It shows you how to capture video from many different source. It contains tips on how to optimize your capture so it will deliver the best quality when finished. The CD contains Software for capture, Codec, FAQ's and Links to sites that specialize in video capture and video production.

We have also made arrangements to video tape the demo. The tape will be converted into a CD,  and it will be available at the following meeting. 

 

#10.  Games I    
A CD of 130 plus Games. It includes freeware, shareware, and some demos all arranged in directories with a auto loading menu that describes each of the games. The CD also contains support programs and the Visual Basic Libraries that are needed to run some of the games.

 

#9.  Emulators II   
This second CD of emulators was created by the request of several members. These emulators have not been tested or evaluated. I found them and placed them on the CD. This disk contains the following emulators and programs for:  TI 99-4a,  Atari 800,  Macintosh,  Apple II,  VIC20, TRS-80,  Timex-Sinclair,  Spectrum.

 

#8.  C64 Emulators and Programs
This CD is a Commodore 64 computer nostalgia trip. We have assembled three different emulators--VICE, CCS64, and FroDo. Each of these emulator duplicates ever aspect of the the Commodore computers and accessory equipment like the 1541 printer, and 1741 printer. We also found  as many programs and games that will fit on a CD. 

We also have a SID plug in for your Internet browsers, a standalone player, and a nice easy quick launch program for all of you non-Commodore fans who don't know that you type Load "$",8 to load a disk directory. [Remember when in emulation the " is a shifted 2 key. Because that is the way it was on the Commodore keyboard].

 We have included copies of the original manuals, a few websites, and of course lots of links.

 

#7.  Emulators
Emulation, in short, is the act of having your computer pretend it's another operating system. Emulating the operating system allows you to run programs on your system which normally would not be possible, which opens up huge possibilities as you can imagine. Emulators exist for everything from gaming consoles to Palm Pilots. 

Please read the copyright notices for each emulator. Some are freeware, and some are shareware

Also remember you can only play the games that you actually have the ROM, cartridge, disk, or tape file for.

The emulators on this CD are for Windows. Each of the emulators has been checked and will run under Windows98. No testing was done with other versions of Windows.

Emulators are available for almost any operating system and computer type including Mac's and Suns.. There are a large number available for LINUX.

 

 #6.  Digital Photography Tutorial    
A whole section dedicated to digital photography. Some of the basic lens techniques and photo taking guides also apply to film camera. Don't worry if you do not have a digital camera. If you have prints from your film camera, a library, or a friend can scan them and you too can take advantage of Digital Photography.

We have not found a good way to classify this information so for now. Each article or section has a menu item and a brief description. Each title and description are hyper-linked to details. You just have to look through it and follow the articles and links. 

 

#5.  Making VCD's and SVCD's  

An html based CD that explain all about making Video and Super Video CD's. Plus all of the programs for making these and DivX CD, and burning them as well. All of the software is either FREE or trial version of shareware.

Learn what VCD's are, learn how to burn them on to a CDR, and play them in your DVD player and on your computer. 

After covering the basic, we review the more difficult parts about capturing files, changing formats, and editing.

This is html based CD that is just plain FUN. A lot of Christmas humor, cartoon, funny stories, and some interesting things too. This CD is for adults and carries a PG13 rating.

 

#3.  Utility Disk 2001
An html base CD containing most all of the popular utilities. Some can be run from the CD other have to be installed first. This CD is a must. It can save you hours of download time and a lot of frustration trying to find the programs.

 

#2.  Video of Demo --  Networking Your PC's

A video CD that explains and shows you how to hook your pc's together to share files, and other resources. This CD DOES NOT COVER Routers and Internet sharing.

This disk contains a video of a demo about networking your PC's.

This CD contains a video demo of about 500 megs, several helpful hints, and RJ-45 connector pin outs for regular and cross over cables. It also contains the educational section of Linksys Inc. website on networking and Charles Spurgeon's eithernet site. This later site contains all the information anyone would want or need and a lot more. These two resources will work in stand-alone mode, but there are links to other websites on the internet, so if you want to take advantage of everything that is offered, your computer will need an internet connection.

To view the video your computer will have to have a video player and an MPEG codex installed to view this file. The default Windows installation should have provided these for you.

#1.  Editing and Making Sound Files
This disk contains a video of a demo about editing sound files and creating MP3 files for use on your computer.

This demo uses CoolEdit  and Music Match. Shareware versions of these programs are included in the Programs directory. (d:/programs) We have also included WinAmp, another completely free player as well. 

This is a fast moving video, that at times is quite detailed and technical. This demo was a two parter, unfortunately Part I was not recorded.

Your computer will have to have a video player and an MPEG codex installed to view this file. The default Windows installation should have provided these for you.
