It's one of XP Pro's hidden gems: A built-in, simple way to control your
PC from afar. It lets you do everything from basic file and data access
up to fully taking over the keyboard and mouse of a distant PC, just as
if you were sitting in front of it. What's more, XP Pro extends this
remote-control ability to any and all versions of Windows--- all the
way back to Win95, including Windows CE palmtop systems and XP Home---
via a FREE client software tool.
Here's an example of how it can work: Imagine you're away from the
office, perhaps at home or on a business trip, and need a file you left
on your PC at work. With XP running on your office PC, you can connect

Against TCPA

Trusted Computing Platform Alliance, with Compaq, HP, IBM, and
Microsoft. The goal is to build a new computing platform that will
provide improved trust in the PC platform. Palladium is the
software that Microsoft plans to incorporate in future versions of
Windows that will build on the TCPA hardware with extra features.
So what's wrong with that?
This setup won't allow you to tamper with applications, and such
applications can communicate with the vendor. In other words, you
won't be able to copy DVDs, swap music downloads, use CDs with a
limited number of times to play, and many other possibilities. In
other words, it's remote-control censorship. If you have something
on your PC that the government or Bill Gates doesn't want you to
have - click and it's gone. Software companies can take advantage
of this to make it harder to switch to competitors' products. All
Word-based documents can only be read using Word and nothing else.
This Web site does a good job of putting this complex topic into
understandable terms and even provides translations of its FAQ in
many languages.

THE 99% WORD FIX.
It's one of those simple tips we often forget and continue to tolerate
MS Word (any version) crashing, sending error messages, and misbehaving
in general. Just close Word and do a find (Ctrl+F will do nicely) for the

Restart Word and it rebuilds the file and resets its default to the original
settings. It's clean and it even seems to start more quickly, with no errors.

The fix for Windows XP not letting you delete .avi
Avi files (divx) can be trouble in xp. there is a fix to let xp behave much better
so it's possible to move or delete large avi files. The obnoxious bug in XP that
causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing
any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll.
To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}InProcServer32

This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property
queries on these files. NOW XP will work perfectly(LOL-ROF-TSH :-D ).

inside, you can do so much that I just don't even have enough space in this newsletter
to explain it all. You have the option of blocking certain Web sites or a pattern of
Web sites (such as Web sites containing violence), but you have the option to
"trust" Web sites that you know are safe for a child. You can also edit the dictionary
of appropriate words for your child and block the sometimes-naughty pop-up ads.
If that wasn't enough, you can also get more advanced by blocking or allowing
specific ports or IP addresses. Probably most important is the collection of log files
and graphs that let you know see where you child has been because let's face it...
a system like this is great, but it's nothing if the parent doesn't spend the time to
